The International Olympic committee (IOC) has partnered with leading online gambling operator Betfair to ensure that match fixing and any sort of cheating and corruption will not be an issue in the upcoming summer Olympic games in London.
Both IOC and Betfair will be sharing customer and transactional data with each other in an attempt to cherry pick irregularities in the games. Betfair will also provide its proprietary software and dedicate an integrity team to ensure online betting is fair and correct. Betfair's integrity team will be closely monitoring its systems and tracking every bet placed to identify suspicious transactions.
"The interests of sports governing bodies, like the IOC, and Betfair are completely aligned in wanting to ensure consumers can bet on sporting events in a transparent and secure manner," said Martin Cruddace, Betfair's chief legal & regulatory affairs officer. "If we are to protect the sports we all love then we must continue to work openly and co-operatively, and today's agreement is a clear example of just that."
The Olympic summer games along with the World Cup, both attract huge number of bettors from around the globe every time they are held every four years.
